Russian Mikhail Youzhny advanced to the Crédit Agricole Suisse Open Gstaad for the third time in four years on Wednesday before heavy rain suspended play.

The third-seeded Russian defeated Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan 6-3, 6-2. Youzhny, who reached the bet-at-home Open - German Tennis Championships 2011 semi-finals (l. to Simon) last week, converted four of his 13 break point opportunities for victory in 74 minutes.

The World No. 14 has a 19-15 match record on the season. He will face either Colombian Santiago Giraldo or Andreas Haider-Maurer of Austria in the last eight.

In one first-round encounter, World No. 89 Matthias Bachinger, who has played predominantly on the ATP Challenger Tour this year (29-10 record), recorded just his second tour-level win of the year over seventh seed Pablo Andujar of Spain 6-1, 6-4. Bachinger hit nine aces and goes onto meet France's Julien Benneteau.
