One day after knocking out Rafael Nadal and Marc Lopez, Tomas Berdych and Florian Mayer moved through to the quarter-finals of the Rogers Cup by upsetting third seeds Mahesh Bhupathi and Leander Paes 6-1, 7-6(9) on Tuesday in Montreal.

This marks the first time that Berdych and Mayer have won back-to-back matches as a team. They are making their third main draw appearance together, and their first since the 2005 US Open.

Bhupathi has won the Rogers Cup doubles title five times, including a pair with Paes in 1997 and 2004. This was the Indian veterans' first time joining forces at this ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournament since their 2004 triumph.

Paul Hanley and Bruno Soares cruised through their first round match Tuesday, taking 53 minutes to dismiss Nicolas Almagro and Lukas Dlouhy 6-3, 6-2.

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Stanislas Wawrinka were also untroubled in their opener, converting three of four break points in a 6-2, 6-4 win over Alexandr Dolgopolov and Dick Norman in 50 minutes.
