Indo-Pak Express Steams Ahead

New York, U.S.A.

Fifth seeds Rohan Bopanna and Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi stayed on track to reach the US Open final for the second year in a row as they dismissed Australian-Belgian duo Paul Hanley and Dick Norman 6-2, 6-3 on Sunday to reach the quarter-finals.

‘The Indo-Pak Express’ hit 24 winners and converted all three of their break point chances to claim victory in 66 minutes. Last year they reached their first Grand Slam final at the US Open, finishing runners-up to Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan.

Bopanna and Qureshi, currently sixth in the 2011 ATP Doubles Team Rankings, go on to face British duo Colin Fleming and Ross Hutchins, who received a walkover past Spanish No. 13 seeds Marcel Granollers and Marc Lopez.

Seventh seeds Robert Lindstedt and Horia Tecau achieved their best result at the US Open as they reached the quarter-finals with a 7-6(4), 7-6(3) victory over Italians Daniele Bracciali and Potito Starace . The Swedish-Romanian duo are bidding to reach their second Grand Slam final of the season after finishing runners-up at Wimbledon (l. to Bryans).

For a place in the semi-finals they will face another Italian pairing, Simone Bolelli and Fabio Fognini, who ousted No. 15 seeds Mark Knowles and Xavier Malisse 7-5, 6-4 in one hour and 31 minutes. Bolelli and Fognini are teaming up for just the third time this season; they were victorious in Umag (d. Cilic-Zovko) and reached the semi-finals in Rome (l. to Isner-Querrey).
