Fourth seed Andy Murray came through an early test to beat World No. 64 Somdev Devvarman of India 7-6(5) 6-2, 6-3 on Wednesday at the US Open.

Murray, who is staying at the same hotel as he did in 2008, when he finished runner-up to Roger Federer, fought back from a 2-4 deficit in the 70-minute first set before overpowering his 26-year-old opponent in the second and third sets. The Scot committed 44 unforced errors on a blazing hot day at Flushing Meadows, but also hit eight aces and 41 winners.

The 24-year-old Murray lifted his second Western & Southern Open title over Novak Djokovic just 11 days ago. Fifteen of his 18 career singles titles has been won on hard-courts.
