Butorac-Rojer Capture Kuala Lumpur Crown

Butorac, Rojer© Malaysian OpenEric Butorac and Jean-Julien Rojer won their third ATP World Tour title of the season.

Eric Butorac and Jean-Julien Rojer boosted their chance of qualifying for the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals as they won their third title of the year with victory in the Malaysian Open, Kuala Lumpur 2011 final on Sunday. The second seeds defeated third seeds Frantisek Cermak and Filip Polasek 6-1, 6-3.

Butorac and Rojer are currently just outside the qualification spots at No. 9 in the 2011 ATP Doubles Team Rankings; the Top 8 teams will earn the right to play at the season finale in London in November.

"[Qualifying for the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals] is one of our goals for sure," said Rojer. "It’s difficult sometimes not to focus on that and instead focus on our matches and how to improve every day and with every practise. But that’s the goal and that’s what we’ve been working for all year, so we would definitely like to make it to London for the first time.”

American Butorac and Rojer of the Netherlands Antilles broke serve twice as they raced to a one-set lead in the final of the ATP World Tour 250 indoor hard court tennis tournament. From 2-3 down in the second set they reeled off four straight games to claim victory in 55 minutes.

"Today was one of those days where every shot you hit the ball feels great. You feel like you’re almost seeing the play one shot in advance. You hope you have more days like that. It’s a pretty good wedding present! If this continues, I’ll be very, very happy," said the newlywed Butorac.

They were also victorious at two clay-court events earlier in the season, lifting the trophies at the Estoril Open (d. M. Lopez-Marrero) and the Open de Nice Côte d’Azur (d. S. Gonzalez-Marrero), and finished runners-up at the Regions Morgan Keegan Championships in Memphis (l. to Mirnyi-Nestor). They improved to a 5-2 overall record together in ATP World Tour doubles finals.
