After winning his first US Open title and earning $2.3 million, Novak Djokovic set an all-time record for most prize money in a season. He is the third player to earn $10 million in a season, accomplishing the feat in 12 tournaments:

GRAND SLAM TOURNAMENT NO. 1 DEBUTS
