Top seeds Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan required just 54 minutes to beat Tomas Berdych and Florian Mayer 6-0, 6-3 on Thursday at the China Open in Beijing, where they are bidding to lift their 75th tour-level trophy and seventh of the year. The American twins have a 49-11 match record on the season.

The Bryans will challenge third seeds Michael Llodra and Nenad Zimonjic in the semi-finals, after the French-Serbian team won 72 per cent of their service points to beat Marcel Granollers and Oliver Marach 6-1, 6-4 in 63 minutes.

Second seeds Max Mirnyi and Daniel Nestor lost to two-time Wimbledon finalists Robert Lindstedt and Horia Tecau 7-6(6), 2-6, 10-6 in one hour and 35 minutes. Lindstedt and Tecau, who are hoping to join the Bryans and Mirnyi-Nestor at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals in November, saved eight of 10 break point opportunities to improve to a 36-17 season mark.

At the Rakuten Japan Open Tennis Championships in Tokyo, Finals hopefuls Eric Butorac and Jean-Julien Rojer lost to Robin Haase and Viktor Troicki 6-4, 6-2 for a place in the last four.

Scottish brothers Andy Murray and Jamie Murray proved too strong for Japanese duo Tatsuma Ito and Kei Nishikori, recording a 6-3, 6-4 win in 66 minutes.

Spaniards David Ferrer and Marc Lopez (pictured) advanced to the quarter-finals by converting their two break point opportunities in a 6-3, 6-4 win over Daniele Bracciali and Santiago Gonzalez.
