Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski stepped up their bid on Friday to qualify for the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals by reaching the Shanghai Rolex Masters semi-finals.

The sixth-seeded Poles recorded their seventh win in 20 meetings with top seeds Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan, who were seeking their 75th tour-level title, 3-6, 6-4, 12-10 in 77 minutes. The American twins won 11 more points than Fyrstenberg and Matkowski, who improved to 16-22 on the season.

The Poles have qualified for the season finale for four of the past five years. They are currently No. 9 in the Battle for London with four spots left up for grabs. This week they are attempting to win their first title since June 2010 at the AEGON International in Eastbourne.

Fyrstenberg and Matkowski will next challenge third seeds Michael Llodra and Nenad Zimonjic, who scraped past sixth seeds and two-time Wimbledon finalists Robert Lindstedt and Horia Tecau 7-6(4), 3-6, 10-7 in one hour and 45 minutes. Llodra and Zimonjic failed to convert any of their five break point opportunities.

On Wednesday, Zimonjic became the 33rd player in ATP World Tour history (since 1973) to record 500 doubles match wins. Read More

In the bottom half of the draw, second seeds Max Mirnyi and Daniel Nestor will meet fourth-seeded Indians Mahesh Bhupathi and Leander Paes on Saturday.

Mirnyi and Nestor improved to 33-16 on the season with a comprehensive 6-2, 6-2 win over Nicolas Almagro and Bruno Soares in just 48 minutes.

Bhupathi and Paes, who are close to qualifying at No. 3 in the Battle for London, notched their 30th match win of the year by beating Thomaz Bellucci and Ivan Dodig 6-3, 6-4 in just over one hour. 'The Indian Express' has won three titles in 2011 and 26 trophies overall.
