Mirnyi-Nestor Reach Fourth Final; Llodra-Zimonjic Beat Poles

Shanghai, China

Second seeds Max Mirnyi and Daniel Nestor reached their fourth tour-level final of the season on Saturday as they defeated fourth seeds Mahesh Bhupathi and Leander Paes 6-1, 6-4 in the semi-finals of the Shanghai Rolex Masters. Both teams have already qualified for the year-end Barclays ATP World Tour Finals.

The Belarusian-Canadian duo broke serve three times from nine opportunities and dropped just eight points on serve as they raced to victory in 52 minutes. They improved to a 34-16 match record on the season.

Mirnyi and Nestor, who joined forces full time at the start of the season, won the title at the Regions Morgan Keegan Championships in Memphis (d. Butorac-Rojer) and captured their first major crown together at Roland Garros (d. Cabal-Schwank). They also finished runners-up at the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami (l. to Bhupathi-Paes).

In the final they will face third seeds Michael Llodra and Nenad Zimonjic, who defeated Barclays ATP World Tour Finals hopefuls Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski 6-2, 7-6(5). The French-Serbian pairing fired 12 aces and saved all four break points they faced to claim victory in 71 minutes.

Llodra and Zimonjic, who are one of the five teams confirmed to appear at the year-end championships in London, are chasing their fourth ATP World Tour title of the season and their second in two weeks. They were victorious in back-to-back weeks over the summer at the Legg Mason Tennis Classic in Washington (d. Lindstedt-Tecau) and the Rogers Cup in Montreal (d. Bryans), and added to their trophy haul last week at the China Open in Beijing (d. Lindstedt-Tecau).
