Finals Hopefuls Bopanna-Qureshi Reach Stockholm Final

Top seeds Rohan Bopanna and Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi came from behind to reach the If Stockholm Open final on Friday, defeating Cypriot-Argentine duo Marcos Baghdatis and Juan Martin del Potro 2-6, 6-2, 10-8.

‘The Indo-Pak Express’ responded to the loss of the first set by breaking twice in the second set to level the match. In the deciding Match Tie-break they converted their first match point to claim victory in 68 minutes.

Bopanna and Qureshi are through to their second ATP World Tour final of the season and are looking to add to the title they won at the Gerry Weber Open in Halle in June (d. Haase-Raonic). They are currently seventh in the 2011 ATP Doubles Team Rankings, closing in on one of the three remaining spots in the eight-team field at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals.

Fourth-seeded Brazilians Marcelo Melo and Bruno Soares improved to a 27-19 match record on the season in their quest for a fourth team title, with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Juan Ignacio Chela and Andre Sa in 65 minutes. The duo saved seven of eight break points for a place in the semi-finals.

Another team aiming to participate at The O2 in London next month, Frantisek Cermak and Filip Polasek, blasted past Russian wild cards Evgeny Donskoy and Teymuraz Gabashvili 6-1, 6-1 in just 44 minutes for a place in the Kremlin Cup final. The duo dropped just six points in their seven service games.

Seeking their third team title of the year, Cermak and Polasek will square off against Carlos Berlocq and David Marrero in the final. Berlocq and Marrero dismissed Alex Bogomolov Jr. and Mikhail Kukushkin 6-2, 6-4, saving all six break points they faced to advance in one hour and three minutes.
