Butorac-Rojer Stay On Course

Defending champions Eric Butorac and Jean-Julien Rojer reached the semi-finals of the If Stockholm Open on Thursday as they defeated Xavier Malisse and Frank Moser 6-3, 6-4. The second seeds broke serve five times from eight opportunities to claim victory in 68 minutes.

Butorac and Rojer clinched their second ATP World Tour team title in Stockholm last year (d. Brunstrom-Nieminen) and are looking to retain the trophy to boost their chances of qualifying for the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals. The duo are currently ninth in the 2011 ATP Doubles Team Rankings, with the top eight teams qualifying for the season finale in London next month.

Fellow Finals contenders Rohan Bopanna and Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi also stayed on track with a 7-6(5), 7-5 victory over Michael Kohlmann and Alexander Waske. ‘The Indo-Pak Express’, currently seventh in the Battle for London, fired 13 aces and converted two of their six break points to prevail in 89 minutes.

At the Kremlin Cup in Moscow top seeds Frantisek Cermak and Filip Polasek came from a set down to edge James Cerretani and Philipp Marx 2-6, 6-3, 11-9 in the quarter-finals. The Czech-Slovak duo are bidding to reach their third successive final, having finished runners-up at the Malaysian Open, Kuala Lumpur 2011 (l. to Butorac-Rojer) and the Rakuten Japan Open Tennis Championships in Tokyo (l. to Murrays).
