London Friday Diary: Serb’s The Word; Janko Chip Sandwich?

Each day during the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals we’ll take a look at the happenings on and off the court at the season finale.

Serb’s The Word
It’s no secret that the Serbs on the ATP World Tour have a close relationship. Janko Tipsarevic re-emphasised that fact Friday, disclosing shortly after defeating Novak Djokovic in round robin action that the pair would likely be vacationing together in a week’s time. "I’m going to Maldives on Monday, hopefully with Novak. He’s going to come there on Thursday."

Janko’s Rating
Tipsarevic earned the thumbs up from a couple of ladies on his rounds of The O2 in this behind-the-scenes video blog with ATPWorldTour.com ("It’s the eyes," they said), and find out which of his fellow competitors’ pictures he liked best, including the one he gave positive marks, saying, "It looks like he’s going to beat up someone."

Rafa Gives Thanks
Rafael Nadal posted a note of thanks on his Facebook page for the outpouring of support following the conclusion of his Barclays ATP World Tour Finals campaign. "Hi everybody, thank you very much for our messages of encouragement, last year I played better, I’ll keep working to improve my results in this competition the next year. Today I have rest at London, tomorrow I’ll travel to Sevilla for the Davis Cup’s final with my teammates. We’ll win at Sevilla!!"

Hot Ticket Item
The final day of round robin action attracted sellout crowds of 17,500 for both the day and night sessions. In addition to Richard Gasquet and Nicolas Kiefer, celebrities in attendance included actors Matthew Macfadyen, Kimberley Nixon and Jack Fox; musician Mike Skinner of The Streets; ex footballer and TV pundit Ian Wright; and Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker.

Thanks, Coach!
Manchester United’s Rio Ferdinand tweeted a message of thanks to Boris Becker for his coaching tips earlier this week at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals. "@Becker_Boris morning my man!! Hope the ankle is easing up! Thanks again for the tips on my backhand at the o2, I'm now the complete player!"

Becker responded, "@rioferdy5 hahaha, get that 2handed backhand and nobody will beat u at united !"

Actress Kimberley Nixon, who watched the Serbian showdown during the day session, had a little difficultly making out a certain player’s name as she sat courtside for the match. @KimberleyNixon1: "Djokovic is amazing but I have a soft spot for Tipsarevic. For 20mins thought the umpire was saying chip sandwich?!?"
