Third seeds Max Mirnyi and Daniel Nestor qualified for the semi-finals at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals from Group B on Tuesday by virtue of beating eighth seeds Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski 6-4, 6-3 in 75 minutes.

Mirnyi and Nestor, this season's Roland Garros champions (d. Cabal-Schwank), improved to a 44-19 match record after hitting five aces and converting three of 10 break points against the 'Polish Power', who are 1-1 in round-robin play this week.

There were two service exchanges early in their second meeting, but Matkowski faltered on serve at 4-5, when he fell to 30/40. Nestor, a winner of 74 doubles titles, fired a backhand return low at Matkowski's feet and Mirnyi rushed across the net to put-away a forehand volley. The first set lasted 37 minutes.

"We started well, the only thing I missed was my serve," said Fyrstenberg.

"They came back and build up their confidence, so it was really tough to come back and play well again."

Matkowski said, "We need to serve a little bit better, today our first serve percentage wasn't that good. Obviously, that knocked us back a little bit as every second serve they were putting pressure on us and returning really well. We have one win under our belt and hopefully we'll get another on Thursday, but we'll have to be better on serve."

Mirnyi and Nestor broke Fyrstenberg's serve to 15 for a 3-1 lead in the second set and Mirnyi went onto clinch their second victory of the week with a hold to 30. The Belarusian-Canadian team beat Rohan Bopanna and Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi on Sunday.

Fyrstenberg and Matkowski, the US Open finalists (l. to Melzer-Petzschner), are now 20-27 on the season.
