Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi married Faha Akmal Mahkdoom in Lahore, Pakistan this weekend at the Garrison Country Club. Dubbed the Prince of Pakistan by the Pakistani press, the wedding is a multiple event affair with traditional functions such as the application of henna to the bride, singing and dancing, spread out over four days.
Saturday, 17 December, was the third day of ceremonies that included the exchanging of vows and the arrival of the bride to the groom’s house. Sunday’s final ceremony will take place at the Model Town Tennis Club where Qureshi learned to play tennis.
While Qureshi is the one getting married, India’s Rohan Bopanna has also been in demand by the press in Pakistan. Due to the popularity of the Indo-Pak Express, Bopanna has been flooded with interview requests. On Friday night while on the way back to his hotel after the late night dance ceremony, Bopanna’s car was stopped at a routine security check. Recognised by the police as the other half of the Indo-Pak Express, Bopanna was invited for milk tea and biscuits.
Each ceremony has drawn more than 1,200 friends, family and dignitaries and swarms of press.
