Mirnyi-Nestor, Lindstedt-Tecau Reach Brisbane QFs

Top seeds Max Mirnyi and Daniel Nestor, the 2011 Barclays ATP World Tour Finals champions, came through a first-round test 1-6, 6-3, 12-10 over Australian wild cards Matthew Ebden and Chris Guccione in 66 minutes on Tuesday at the Brisbane International. Mirnyi and Nestor dropped six points on first serve and hit four aces.

Earlier in the day, third seeds Robert Lindstedt and Horia Tecau defeated Alexandr Dolgopolov and Denys Molchanov 6-4, 6-4. Lindstedt and Tecau, who reached their second consecutive Wimbledon final in 2011, broke serve three times to claim victory in one hour and nine minutes.

The first-time pairing of Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Michal Mertinak edged Frenchmen Nicolas Mahut and Gilles Simon 7-5, 6-7(3), 10-4 to advance to the quarter-finals. Fyrstenberg and Mertinak did not drop serve in the match, winning 88 per cent of their first service points.

At the Aircel Chennai Open, No. 2 seeds Scott Lipsky and Rajeev Ram defeated wild cards N.Sriram Balaji and Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan 7-5, 6-4 in a first-round encounter. The Americans hit 75 per cent of their first serves in play, winning 76 per cent of those points.

Fabio Fognini and Igor Zelenay beat Johan Brunstrom and Ivan Dodig 6-4, 7-5 to progress into the quarter-finals.

In Doha, Alex Bogomolov Jr./Igor Kunitsyn, Flavio Cipolla/Andreas Seppi and Marc Lopez/Albert Ramos all advanced in first-round action.
