Bhupathi-Bopanna Win In 2012 Partnership Debut

No. 1 seeds Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna began their new partnership at the Aircel Chennai Open Wednesday with a come from behind 5-7, 6-3, 10-5 victory over Xavier Malisse and Ken Skupski.

The Indian pair fired 11 aces and won 71 per cent of their points on serve to advance in one hour and 25 minutes.

No. 3 seeds Leander Paes and Janko Tipsarevic overcame 16 aces by Canadian pair Vasek Pospisil and Milos Raonic to take their first-round meeting 6-3, 4-6, 10-7. Paes hoisted the trophy last year with Bhupathi.

Fourth-seeded Jonathan Erlich and Andy Ram reached the semi-finals following their 6-3, 6-3 win over Nicolas Almagro and Pere Riba in one hour. The Israelis finished runner-up in 2004.

In Brisbane, Paul Hanley and Jamie Murray were successful in their partnership debut, dismissing Austrians Oliver Marach and Alexander Peya 6-2, 6-3 in one hour and seven minutes. Hanley and Murray advance to play third-seeded Robert Lindstedt and Horia Tecau.

At the Qatar ExxonMobil Open, Flavio Cipolla and Andreas Seppi upset No. 3 seeds Daniele Bracciali and Potito Starace 6-3, 7-5 in an all-Italian affair. Bracciali and Starace converted just one of 13 break point opportunities in their quarter-final defeat.

Two unseeded teams also progressed to the semi-finals. Dmitry Tursunov and Nenad Zimonjic defeated Marc Lopez and Albert Ramos 6-3, 6-3, while Filip Polasek and Lukas Rosol beat Pablo Andujar and Guillermo Garcia-Lopez 6-3, 7-5.
