MONTPELLIER WEDNESDAY PREVIEW –  FRENCHMEN SIMON, GASQUET, NO. 5 LOPEZ EYE QUARTER-FINALS
• There are four second round matches on Wednesday’s schedule at the Open Sud de France, all involving Frenchmen.

• In the opening singles match on Court Central, No. 5 seed Feliciano Lopez of Spain and French wild card Guillaume Rufin meet for the first time. Lopez, who fired 19 aces in his first round win on Tuesday, comes in this week ranked a career-high No. 15 and he’s one of four Spaniards in the Top 15. The left-hander from Madrid advanced to the fourth round at the Australian Open. Rufin opened on Monday with a 64 76 victory over Canadian Vasek Pospisil. The 21-year-old Rufin is trying to post his first Top 20 win and reach his second career ATP World Tour quarter-final (2010 Marseille).

• In the second match, No. 4 seed Richard Gasquet takes a 2-1 lead against former World No. 3 Nikolay Davydenko of Russia. The No. 16-ranked Gasquet is 4-2 on the season and he opened with a quarter-final (after bye) in Sydney and followed with a fourth round at the Australian Open (l. to Ferrer). Davydenko, who is ranked out of the Top 50 (at No. 52) for the first time since Sept 2004, opened with a 62 61 win over Frenchman Stephane Robert on Monday. Davydenko has the most career ATP World Tour titles (21) in the field and he finished in the Top 10 for five years in a row from 2005-09.

• In the third match on, Italian Flavio Cipolla and No. 2 seed Gilles Simon meet for the second time. In 2008, Cipolla was leading 62 5-3 when Simon retired due to injury. Cipolla is 3-2 on the season and ranked a career-high No. 75. He’s trying to reach his first ATP World Tour quarter-final since May 2009 in Belgrade. Simon enters with a 4-2 mark on the season and he opened the first week with a semi-final in Brisbane and followed with a second round at the Australian Open (l. to Benneteau in five sets).

• On Court 1, Frenchman Edouard Roger-Vasselin takes on No. 7 seed Philipp Kohlschreiber of Germany for the first time on the ATP World Tour. They first played in their early pro days in a Futures event in Jamaica in 2002 with Kohlschreiber winning in straight sets. Roger-Vasselin, who finished No. 106 last season, is back in the Top 100 at No. 98. He is trying to reach his first ATP World Tour quarter-final since Newport in July last year. Kohlschreiber opened the season with a three-set loss to No. 2 Rafael Nadal in the first round of Doha, then reached the semi-finals in Auckland and fourth round at the Australian Open (l. to del Potro). He opened on Tuesday with a 61 64 victory over Belgian Olivier Rochus.  The No. 2 German is ranked No. 33.

ZAGREB WEDNESDAY PREVIEW – TOP SEED LJUBICIC, DEFENDING CHAMP DODIG HIGHLIGHT DAY THREE
• There are four first round and three second round matches on Wednesday’s schedule at the PBZ Zagreb Indoors with a pair of former champions and four seeds in action.

• Leading off the day’s schedule is British qualifier Daniel Evans against veteran Spaniard Guillermo Garcia-Lopez in a first-time main draw meeting. They met in the qualifying of Nottingham in June 2008 and Garcia-Lopez prevailed in three sets. The 21-year-old Evans is looking for his first career ATP World Tour level match win (0-9) and he’s ranked No. 296. Garcia-Lopez is 3-3 on the season and his best result came in the second week of the season in Auckland where he reached the quarter-finals (l. to countryman Verdasco). The 28-year-old Spaniard comes in ranked No. 77.

• In the second match, Croatian wild card Antonio Veic and Slovenian Grega Zemlja meet for the first time on the ATP World Tour. They met on clay in two Challengers in 2010-11 and Zemlja won both meetings in straight sets. The 23-year-old Veic is ranked No. 173 and he’s making his ATP World Tour season debut. Zemlja opened the season by qualifying into Doha, then defeating Sergei Bubka before losing in the second round to World No. 3 Roger Federer 62 63. He lost in the second round of qualifying at the Australian Open.

• In the third match on, Austrian Jurgen Melzer, who qualified into the main draw for the first time since September 2007 in Metz, squares off with No. 5 seed Andreas Seppi of Italy in a second round match.  The top players from their respective country are meeting for the seventh time (tied 3-3). Melzer has won both previous indoor meetings in straight sets, including their last encounter in Marseille last February. Melzer, who reached a career-high No. 8 on April 18 last year, won his opening round match on Tuesday over regular doubles partner Philipp Petzschner. Melzer is ranked No. 41. Seppi, who is ranked No. 42, is looking to reach his second quarter-final of the season. In the opening week in Doha, he lost in the quarters to No. 3 Roger Federer in three sets.

• In the evening session, Marsel Ilhan of Turkey and No. 4 seed/reigning champion Ivan Dodig square off for the first time. Ilhan is attempting to win his first ATP World Tour main draw match of the season. He lost in the qualifying rounds in Doha (2R) and Australian Open (1R) and last week in the second round at the Heilbronn Challenger. Dodig, who was one of 10 first-time winners on the ATP World Tour last season, is trying to break a three-match losing streak. He opened the year with a second round in Chennai before losing back-to-back first round matches in Sydney and the Australian Open.

• In the final match, top seed and 2006 Zagreb winner Ivan Ljubicic takes on German left-hander Michael Berrer, who has reached the final here the past two years. Surprisingly this is a first-time meeting between the two players over 30. Ljubicic has a 17-5 career mark in Zagreb and he is a 10-time winner on the ATP World Tour. He also was a runner-up here in 2007-08. Berrer, who recently became a father for the first time with the birth of his daughter, Mia-Marie Coco (born Jan. 17), opened with a 76 61 win over qualifier Marco Chiudinelli. Last week he was a QF at the Heilbronn Challenger.

• On Court 1, there are two matches, a first round between Israeli Dudi Sela and German Andreas Beck, and a  second round between No. 7 Dutchman Robin Haase and German Matthias Bachinger.

VINA DEL MAR WEDNESDAY PREVIEW – TOP SEED MONACO, NO. 4 ANDUJAR, NO. 5 MONTANES EYE QUARTERS

• Second round play at the VTR Open begins on Wednesday with three seeds in action on Central Court.

• In the opening match, Brazilian qualifier Rogerio Dutra Silva takes on No. 5 seed Albert Montanes for the first time. The 27-year-old Sao Paulo native (who turns 28 on Friday), attempts to reach his first career ATP World quarter-final. Dutra Silva, who is ranked No. 124, opened with a three-set win over Maximo Gonzalez on Tuesday. Montanes has enjoyed success on Chilean soil (11-7 mark), reaching the semifinals in 2003 and ’07. He is looking to reach his first ATP World Tour quarter-final since August last year when he was runner-up in Kitzbuehel (l. to Haase). The Barcelona native opened the tournament with a straight-sets win over countryman Ruben Ramirez-Hidalgo.

• In the second match, No. 4 seed Pablo Andujar looks for his first ATP World Tour win against Portuguese No. 2 Frederico Gil, who has won both previous meetings in Brazil in 2009-10. Andujar, who received a first round bye, comes in with a 1-3 mark on the season and last year he broke through to capture his first ATP World Tour title in Casablanca (d. Starace) in April. He was one of 10 first-time winners during the season. Last year he reached the second round in Santiago. Gil is coming off a career-best third round showing at the Australian Open (l. to Tsonga). Last season he finished just outside the Top 100 (at No. 102) and he became the first Portuguese player to reach the quarter-finals at an ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournament in Monte-Carlo (l. to Murray).

• In the final match, top seed Juan Monaco of Argentina takes a 4-2 career mark (3-1 on clay) against veteran Russian Igor Andreev. This is their first meeting in South America. Last season he finished in the Top 30 for the third year in a row at No. 26, reaching his first hard court final in Valencia (l. to Granollers).
