Top seed Juan Monaco of Argentina cruised through his second round opener at the VTR Open in Vina del Mar, dismissing Igor Andreev 6-2, 6-1 in one hour and 15 minutes.

Monaco improved to a 5-2 FedEx ATP Head2Head record against the Russian as he capitalised on six of his 12 break points. Andreev, a former World No. 18, managed to win just 14 points on serve.

The 29-year-old Monaco has reached the final twice at this ATP World Tour 250 clay-court tournament, finishing runner-up to Fernando Gonzalez in 2008 and to Thomaz Bellucci in 2010.

“It’s always great to come back to a place where you feel so comfortable,” he said. “It was my first clay match of the year and sometimes you’re not sure about how you’ll play, so I’m very happy about the level I had.”
