Mirnyi-Nestor Open Memphis Title Defence

Doubles 2012

Defending champions Max Mirnyi and Daniel Nestor opened their Regions Morgan Keegan Championships campaign in Memphis Wednesday with a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Kevin Anderson and Mark Knowles.

The top seeds won 30 of their 31 first serve points, firing 11 aces to reach the quarter-finals in one hour and 11 minutes.

Colin Fleming and Ross Hutchins beat Eric Butorac and Bruno Soares 7-6(5), 6-3, saving all five break points they faced. Butorac and Soares were coming off of a triumph at the Brasil Open 2012 in Sao Paulo last week.

Wild cards Ryan Harrison and Denis Kudla converted five breaks of serve against Jonathan Erlich and Andy Ram to defeat the Israeli duo 6-2, 6-3.

In quarter-final action, 2010 titlists John Isner and Sam Querrey topped Alex Bogomolov Jr. and Lukasz Kubot 2-6, 6-3, 15-13 in 74 minutes to become the first team to advance into the semi-finals.

At the Copa Claro, two seeded teams were upset in the Buenos Aires quarter-finals. David Marrero and Fernando Verdasco edged No. 3 seeds Pablo Andujar and Carlos Berlocq 4-6, 6-3, 10-8, while Rui Machado and Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo dismissed fourth seeds Pere Riba and Joao Souza 6-4, 6-1.

No. 1 seeds Daniele Bracciali and Potito Starace, and second seeds Michal Mertinak and Andre Sa, both won their openers.

In Marseille, Britons Jamie Delgado and Ken Skupski advanced to the Open 13 semi-finals with a 6-3, 6-3 win over David Guez and Florent Serra in 59 minutes. They lost 13 points on their serves and converted four of eight break point opportunities.

In first-round action at the Palais des Sports de Marseille, Arnaud Clement and Lukas Dlouhy defeated Martin Emmrich and Andreas Siljestrom 6-4, 4-6, 10-7 in 87 minutes, while Johan Brunstrom and Dick Norman won 75 per cent of their service points to beat Julian Knowle and Michael Kohlmann 6-2, 6-4.
