Gasquet Wins Marseille Opener; Davydenko Sets Up Del Potro Test

Fifth seed Richard Gasquet dismissed Go Soeda 6-0, 6-2 to win his Open 13 opener in Marseille Tuesday.

The Frenchman saved all seven break points against his serve, and capitalised on five of his six break point chances to advance in just 62 minutes.

Gasquet has been consistent thus far in 2012, reaching the quarter-finals in Sydney, Montpellier and Rotterdam, and the round of 16 at the Australian Open.

In the second round, the World No. 15 will face Igor Kunitsyn, who advanced with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over qualifier Roberto Bautista-Agut.

Former World No. 3 Nikolay Davydenko will challenge fourth seed Juan Martin del Potro of Argentina in the second round after the Russian beat German Andreas Beck 6-1, 7-5.

World No. 40 Davydenko won 42 of his 59 service points and hit nine aces for victory in 81 minutes. It was the pair's first meeting since the 2004 MercedesCup in Stuttgart.

Nicolas Mahut will meet top-seeded French compatriot Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, the 2009 titlist, after he defeated 2006 champion Arnaud Clement 6-3, 6-4. Mahut fired 12 aces past wild card Clement, who has a 20-14 record at the ATP World Tour 250 indoor tournament. He is now 5-0 lifetime against Clement.

Karol Beck denied wild card Paul-Henri Mathieu a victory on home soil, taking their first-round meeting 7-6(2), 2-6, 6-3 in two hours and 25 minutes.

Belgian qualifier David Goffin will face third seed Janko Tipsarevic of Serbia, while French qualifier Albano Olivetti will challenge second-seeded American Mardy Fish in round two.
