Seventh-seeded Spaniard Marcel Granollers, an Acapulco quarter-finalist in 2008 (l. to Acasuso), defeated Brazilian Thomaz Bellucci 6-4, 6-2 with four breaks of serve.

Argentine Juan Ignacio Chela was untroubled in his first-round match, dismissing Mexican wild card Cesar Ramirez 6-0, 6-2 in one hour and 10 minutes.
