Julian Knowle and Alexander Peya edged past top seeds Michael Llodra and Nenad Zimonjic 7-6(3), 7-6(2) in one hour and 40 minutes on Thursday at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships. Knowle and Peya lost 20 points on serve and converted three of nine break point opportunities.
Fourth-seeded Indians Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna, who are seeking their first ATP World Tour final as a pair, will next play Knowle and Peya after topping Paul Hanley and Jamie Murray 6-3, 6-3 in 64 minutes.
Americans Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan, the top seeds at the Delray Beach International Tennis Championships, also made a quarter-final exit Thursday as they fell to the Croatian-German pairing of Ivo Karlovic and Frank Moser 4-6, 6-4, 10-4.
The Bryans were looking to win their 10th straight match at this ATP World Tour 250 tournament, having claimed the title on their last two visits in 2009 and '10.
At the Abierto Mexicano Telcel, top seeds Frantisek Cermak and Filip Polasek made their way safely into the semi-finals with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Joao Souza and Filippo Volandri in 56 minutes. Cermak and Polasek will be looking to reach their second final of 2012; they were runners-up in January at Auckland.
