Mixed Results For Top-Seeded Duos

Top seeds Alex Bogomolov Jr. and Scott Lipsky teamed for a 7-6(6), 6-0 win over Philipp Marx and Lovro Zovko Tuesday in the first round of the US Men’s Clay Court Championship.

Bogomolov and Lipsky, who are joining forces for the first time this week, converted on four of their nine break point chances to secure the 69-minute victory.

Ivo Karlovic and Frank Moser, making their seventh ATP World Tour main draw appearance together, also advanced to the quarter-finals with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Argentines Carlos Berlocq and Diego Junqueira.

They next face No. 3 seeds Michael Kohlmann and Alexander Waske, who closed out a 1-6, 6-2, 10-7 win over American wild cards Robert Kendrick and Ryan Sweeting on Monday in Houston.

At the Grand Prix Hassan II in Casablanca, No. 1 seeds Frantisek Cermak and Filip Polasek succumbed to the new pairing of Dustin Brown and Paul Hanley 7-6(3), 6-3.

Brown and Hanley will next play Alexandr Dolgopolov and Malek Jaziri, after the Ukrainian-Tunisian duo edged Spaniards Pablo Andujar and Guillermo Garcia-Lopez 7-6(5), 7-6(6).

Fourth-seeded Italians Daniele Bracciali and Fabio Fognini made their way safely into the quarter-finals, prevailing against Michal Mertinak and Andre Sa 3-6, 7-6(1), 10-4, and next meet Britons Jonathan Marray and Jamie Murray, 6-7(3), 6-2, 10-3 winners over Spaniards Albert Montanes and Albert Ramos.
