Top seeds Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan avenged this year's Australian Open and Sony Ericsson Open losses to fifth seeds Leander Paes and Radek Stepanek on Friday with an emphatic 6-2, 6-0 victory in just 51 minutes at the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters.
The American twins, who lifted the 2007 and 2011 trophies at the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 clay-court tournament, lost 10 points on their serve and converted five of 10 break point opportunities to improve to 3-2 lifetime against Paes and Stepanek.
The Bryans are now 17-5 in Monte-Carlo and improve to 18-3 in 2012, which includes one ATP World Tour team title at the Apia International Sydney (d. Ebden-Nieminen). Paes and Stepanek, titlists at the first Grand Slam championship of the year in Melbourne and in Miami, drop to 15-3 on the year.
Spaniard Marcel Granollers and Marc Lopez, who will face the Bryans in their first ATP World Tour Masters 1000 semi-final, recorded a 6-0, 6-1 win over Florian Mayer and Jurgen Melzer in 48 minutes. Mayer and Melzer won 22 of 71 total points against this year's Abierto Mexicano Telcel finalists.
Third seeds Michael Llodra and Nenad Zimonjic also enjoyed a straight forward win over Oliver Marach and Alexander Peya by a 6-2, 6-1 score line in 48 minutes. The duo won 78 per cent of their service points and improved to an 11-4 season record.
In the semi-finals, Llodra and Zimonjic will square off against No. 2 seeds Max Mirnyi and Daniel Nestor. The 2011 Roland Garros champions secured the final semi-final berth with a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Viktor Troicki and Stanislas Wawrinka.
Mirnyi and Nestor, looking for their third title of the season after triumphs at the Brisbane International and Regions Morgan Keegan Championships in Memphis, won 86 per cent of their first serve points to advance in one hour and eight minutes.
