Erlich/Ram Win On Return To Barcelona

Jonathan Erlich and Andy Ram, making their team’s first appearance at the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell in four years, edged Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo and Eduardo Schwank 7-6(5), 7-6(4) in one hour and 42 minutes Tuesday. The Israelis, runners-up in the 2012 season opener at Chennai, next face No. 3 seeds Mahesh Bhupathi and Nenad Zimonjic.
Eric Butorac and Bruno Soares, champions this past February at the clay-court tournament in Sao Paulo, needed one hour to dismiss Americans Scott Lipsky and Rajeev Ram 6-3, 6-3.
Two seeded duos fell in first-round action at the BRD Nastase Tiriac Trophy in Bucharest. Australians Paul Hanley and Jordan Kerr prevailed against third-seeded Italians Daniele Bracciali and Potito Starace 4-6, 7-5, 10-8 in one hour and 34 minutes, while recent Houston finalist Treat Huey and Dominic Inglot ousted No. 5 seeds Xavier Malisse and Dick Norman 7-6(4), 6-4.
Fourth seeds James Cerretani and Fabio Fognini made a winning partnership debut, defeating the Italian duo of Andreas Seppi and Filippo Volandri 7-6(3), 6-4. They saved 10 of the 11 break points faced on serve.
