Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic will square off in a charity tennis match at Real Madrid’s Bernabeu Stadium in Spain on 14 July, aiming to draw 80,000 fans to the one-off event.
Nadal, a long-time fan of the team, is working in conjunction with the club’s charity, the Realmadrid Foundation, to raise money for the Rafa Nadal Foundation. The proceeds generated will support causes coordinated by both organisations.
Should the event hit its target turnout, it will smash the Guinness World Record for attendance at a tennis match of 35,681 people, set by Kim Clijsters and Serena Williams in July 2010.
Djokovic and Nadal have produced one of the most intriguing rivalries on the ATP World Tour, with Djokovic winning seven straight meetings, all finals, to pull within two matches of levelling their FedEx ATP Head 2 Head series. Nadal leads the Serbian 16-14.
