Three Top 10 players are set to feature in a strong field at this year's Power Horse World Team Cup, to be played at the Rochusclub in Dusseldorf from 20-26 May.
World No. 7 Tomas Berdych spearheads the Czech Republic’s campaign, while No. 8 Janko Tipsarevic leads Serbia and No. 9 Mardy Fish features for the United States. Fish is joined on the American team by former World No. 1 and 2003 US Open champion Andy Roddick, who is playing in Dusseldorf for the first time since 2006.
Host nation Germany is the defending champion at the team event after winning a record fifth title last year and is due to be represented by Florian Mayer, Philipp Kohlschreiber and Philipp Petzschner.
"Last year’s Power Horse World Team Cup win was, together with my season’s highlight when I won the ATP tournament in Halle, my second major success in 2011," declared Petzschner. "I always love playing in Düsseldorf with the team. We want to repeat last season’s great performance and defend our title successfully. It certainly won’t be easy in such a high class field but we’ll do our best."
Also set to compete are Croatia, Russia and Argentina, with a Kei Nishikori-led Japan completing the field as a wild card entrant. Japan will make its debut in Dusseldorf as the 26th nation to play in the Power Horse World Team Cup.
Tournament Director Dietloff von Arnim said, "We’re looking forward to welcoming the Japanese. Who knows, perhaps it’ll be almost like a home game for them with the large Japanese community here in Düsseldorf."
