MUNICH TUESDAY PREVIEW – FORMER CHAMPIONS DAVYDENKO, YOUZHNY, FINALIST HAAS IN ACTION

• First round action continues on Tuesday at the BMW Open by Atlanticlux with a pair of former Russian champions and a German who reached the final here 12 years ago.

• The first match on Centre Court features Tobias Kamke of Germany and No. 8 seed Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus in a first-time meeting. Kamke, who is making his main draw debut in Munich, played in the qualifying here five years ago and lost in the first round. Kamke is 2-7 on the season (0-1 on clay). Baghdatis is 7-3 lifetime in Munich, reaching the semi-finals in 2007 and 2010. The former World No. 8 reached the semi-finals this season in Sydney in January and in Zagreb in February. He is playing in his second clay court tournament of the year (0-1).

• In the second match on, Alejandro Falla of Colombia makes his Munich debut against German Matthias Bachinger, who is coming off his first career ATP World Tour semi-final over the weekend in Bucharest where he lost to eventual champion Gilles Simon. Falla is looking for his first clay court win (0-2) of the season and his best ATP World Tour result was a quarter-final in Auckland in January. Bachinger is 1-3 lifetime in Munich and he won his lone match here in 2007 when he qualified and reached the second round.  Bachinger improved from No. 120 to No. 103 after his semi-final result.

• In the next match, 30-over German wild cards Michael Berrer and Tommy Haas square off for the second time. Last July, Haas won 7-6, 6-4 in the first round of Newport. Berrer is 1-2 in Munich, winning his lone match four years ago. The 31-year-old Stuttgart native is ranked No. 112 and his best ATP World Tour result was the semi-finals in Zagreb in February. Haas has an 11-8 career mark in Munich and he was runner-up in 2000 (l.to Squillari). He is making his first appearance here in five years. Haas is 4-4 on the season and he’s making his season clay court debut. He played in the qualifying in Houston three weeks ago and after a bye, won a round then withdrew from his final round match (vs. Soeda) due to a right knee injury. Haas, at 34, is the oldest player in the singles draw.

• In the final match, two-time semi-finalist (2010-11) Philipp Petzschner is making his fifth straight Munich appearance against No. 6 seed and 2010 champion Mikhail Youzhny of Russia.  Youzhny has won three of the previous four meetings and this is the third straight year they are playing against each other in Munich (1-1). Petzschner is 3-7 on the season (0-1 on clay) and he’s been bothered by a wrist injury at times. Youzhny is 10-4 on the year (0-1 on clay) and he earned his eighth ATP World Tour title in Zagreb (d. Lacko) in February. Youzhny also reached the final here in 2007 and ’09. He is looking for his 20th career match win (19-7) in Munich and this is his eighth visit in 10 years (except ’05 and ’08).

• On Court 4, No. 7 seed and two-time champion (2004, ’11) Nikolay Davydenko of Russia brings in a 12-3 career mark in Munich against Colombian qualifier Robert Farah, who reached the third round in Barcelona last week (l. to eventual champion Nadal). There’s also an all-German first round encounter as qualifier Dustin Brown squares off with wild card Daniel Brands, a semi-finalist here in 2009.
