NICE TUESDAY PREVIEW – AFTER  MONDAY WASHOUT, 12 MATCHES ON BUSY DAY THREE SCHEDULE
• It will be a busy Tuesday at the Open de Nice Côte d’Azur, with 12 first round matches on the order of play after Monday’s washout.

• In the opening match on Centre Court, veteran Belgian Xavier Malisse resumes his match from Sunday against Yen-Hsun Lu of Chinese Taipei, leading 75, 1-0.  Malisse’s best ATP World Tour result this year is the quarter-finals in Bucharest. In January, Lu advanced to the third round at the Australian Open, his best showing to date.

• In the second match, former World No. 3 Nikolay Davydenko of Russia looks for his second win in as many meetings against No. 2 Aussie Matthew Ebden. Davydenko tries to even his match record on the season (9-10) and his best result was a semi-final in Rotterdam in February. Ebden is making his Nice debut and he enters with an 8-8 match record on the season (0-1 on clay).

• In the third match, Frenchmen Frenchmen Edouard Roger-Vasselin and wild card Benoit Paire square off for the first time. Roger-Vasselin is ranked No. 80 with a 6-7 match record and his best result was a quarter-final in Marseille in February. Paire has improved from No. 95 at the end of last year to No. 66 coming in and the 21-year-old Frenchman reached his first career ATP World Tour final in Belgrade a couple of weeks ago (l. to Seppi). He is 12-10 on the year, already surpassing 2011 (5-10).

• In the fourth match, No. 8 seed Fabio Fognini of Italy and Steve Darcis of Belgium meet for the first time on the ATP World Tour although they have played four other times on lower level events. Fognini is 0-2 lifetime in Nice and earlier this month he reached his first career ATP World Tour final in Bucharest (l. to Simon). He has a 7-9 match record on the season (6-6 on clay). Darcis enters with a7-7 record on the season and his best ATP World Tour result was a quarter-final in San Jose in February.

• In the evening match, No. 6 seed and top Dutchman Robin Haase looks to even his record (0-1) against former World No. 1 and 2003 Roland Garros champion Juan Carlos Ferrero. Haase has reached three ATP World Tour quarter-finals this season, including his first ATP Masters 1000 In Monte-Carlo. He is ranked  a career-high No. 39 this week. Ferrero was slowed by a wrist injury for two months and last week he turned in his season-best third round showing in Rome (l. to Federer).

• There are four matches on Court 1, including No. 5 seed Bernad Tomic, who is the youngest player in the draw. On Court 5, No. 7 seed Denis Istomin takes on Colombian Alejandro Falla.

• BAKER IS BACK  -- American qualifier Brian Baker, at age 27, is playing in his first career ATP World Tour clay court tournament. The Nashville, Tennessee native reached the Roland Garros junior final in 2003 (l. to Wawrinka) and finished as the No. 7 junior in the world that year. He was then sidelined  for six years after undergoing five surgeries before returning last July.  This is Baker’s first ATP World Tour level tournament since the 2005 US Open when he lost in the second round. Baker takes on Sergiy Stakhovsky of Ukraine on Court 7.

DUSSELDORF TUESDAY PREVIEW – TOP 10 RANKED BERDYCH, TIPSAREVIC HEADLINE DAY THREE
• Two members of the Top 10 and a former No. 1 player on the ATP World Tour are among the six singles matches on Tuesday’s order of play at the Power Horse World Team Cup.

• Leading off the Blue Group on Centre Court I is Germany’s No. 2 player Florian Mayer against Croat Ivan Dodig. Mayer won the previous meeting in the second round of the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 in Miami in March. Mayer was a member of last year’s winning squad as he compiled a 3-0 singles mark. This is his fourth appearance in Duesseldorf and he comes in with a 6-3 mark. Mayer was hampered by a hip strain early in the season and he has a match record of 6-12 in 2012 after last year putting together a career-best season with 11 quarter-finals or better and breaking into the Top 20. Dodig lost in his Duesseldorf debut to Viktor Troicki and he comes in with an 8-13 match record on the season (2-4 on clay).

• In the next match on in Red Group play, World No. 7 Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic takes on former World No. 1 Andy Roddick of the U.S. Roddick leads the overall series 6-4 but Berdych won the previous two meetings, including in March in Indian Wells. Roddick won the only previous clay court meeting five years ago in Davis Cup play. Berdych  is putting together another solid season by reaching the quarter-finals or better in seven tournaments, including a runner-up at ATP Masters 1000 Madrid last Sunday (l. to Federer). He is 29-8 on the season (12-3 on clay). Roddick has been trying to overcome off and on injuries and this is his first tournament since a round showing in Miami on March 27. Roddick lost his opener to Argentine Carlos Berlocq on Sunday.

• In the third match on in Blue Group play, Serbian World No. 8 Janko Tipsarevic brings a 2-1 career mark against Russian Alex Bogomolov Jr.  Tipsarevic, who went 3-1 in 2009 while leading his country to its first World Team Cup title, is putting together another solid season on the ATP World Tour with a 23-11 match record. He’s reached one ATP World Tour final, two semi-finals and three quarter-finals. Bogomolov, who earned last year’s ATP Most Improved Player of the Year, is trying to turn his season around. He is 8-14 on the season and winless in four clay matches. Bogomolov Jr. is playing his first Top 10 opponent of the season and he’s trying to secure his first (Top 10) victory on clay. He is 3-11 overall.

• In the final match scheduled on, a pair of former Top 10 performers, Radek Stepanek of the Czech Republic and James Blake of the U.S. meet for the first time in five years.  Blake leads the overall series 4-2 but Stepanek won the only previous clay court match in their first meeting in 2003.

• On Centre Court 2, there are two matches, leading off with Viktor Troicki of Serbia against Russian Dmitry Tursunov. Troicki is 4-0 lifetime against Tursunov and this will be their first battle on clay. In the next match on, Argentine Leonardo Mayer and Japan’s Tatsuma Ito play each other for the first time.  Both players are coming off successful Duesseldorf debuts with three-set victories.

MONDAY REVIEW – CZECH REPUBLIC, GERMANY & SERBIA WIN OPENING TIES
• After Tatsuma Ito had given Japan a 1-0 lead over the Czech Republic at the Power Horse World Team Cup on Sunday, Tomas Berdych led his country’s fightback on Monday in Dusseldorf with a 6-1, 3-6, 6-1 victory over Go Soeda.

• "I felt good, it was a good game," said Berdych. "I played the opponent for the first time and I was quite surprised. He played really well, especially in the second set. He made me work hard until the end and I’m happy to get the point for our team."

• Frantisek Cermak and Radek Stepanek then prevailed in the decisive doubles in the Red Group tie, beating Ito and Soeda 6-2, 7-6(4) in 84 minutes.

• World No. 7 Berdych is representing the Czech Republic at the Rochusclub for the sixth time and has a 13-4 event record. The 26 year old has been in good form on the European clay, reaching the final in Madrid (l. to Federer) and the semi-finals in Monte-Carlo (l. to Djokovic).

• In the Blue Group, host nation and defending champion Germany completed a 3-0 opening victory over Russia. Following Philipp Kohlschreiber’s win over Alex Bogomolov Jr., on Sunday, Florian Mayer defeated Igor Andreev 6-2, 7-6(7) in 1:40, before joining up with Christopher Kas to overcome Igor Kunitsyn and Dmitry Tursunov 6-4, 3-6, 10-8.

• "Of course, it’s easier when you’re 1-0 up to go onto the court," said Mayer. "But I also knew that I had to win my match, because you never know what happens in the doubles. They also have a good doubles team. It’s our goal to make it to the final. It will be difficult, but it’s not impossible."

• Serbia also won its opening tie on Monday, with Janko Tipsarevic giving the 2009 champion an unassailable 2-0 lead over Croatia by dismissing Lovro Zovko 6-0, 6-0. The World No. 8 dropped just seven points on serve as he defeated Zovko, a late replacement for the injured Ivo Karlovic, in 46 minutes. A day earlier, Viktor Troicki had beaten Ivan Dodig in straight sets.
