Ferrer Into Den Bosch QFs; Ito Upsets Melzer

's-Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands

Top seed David Ferrer advanced to the UNICEF Open quarter-finals on Wednesday, dismissing Leonardo Mayer 6-3, 6-1 in ‘s-Hertogenbosch.

The World No. 6 capitalised on all four of his break point chances, and won 84 per cent of his service points to move past Mayer in one hour.

Ferrer, who triumphed on his tournament debut in 2008, improved to 9-1 at the ATP World Tour 250 grass-court event. Next up for Ferrer is Igor Sijsling.

The Dutch wild card fired 21 aces past veteran Belgian Olivier Rochus for a 7-5, 7-6(4) victory, reaching his first ATP World Tour quarter-final since the Moselle Open in September 2011.

Japan's Tatsuma Ito lost just 11 points on his serve to defeat third-seeded Austrian Jurgen Melzer 6-2, 6-2 in just 57 minutes.

Despite hitting eight double faults, France's Benoit Paire saved five of nine break points to beat eighth seed Lukasz Kubot of Poland 6-3, 0-6, 6-4 in one hour and 38 minutes.

Edouard Roger-Vasselin topped Italy’s Flavio Cipolla 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 in one hour and 42 minutes. Roger-Vasselin will aim to reach his first tour-level semi-final when he plays qualifier Philipp Petzschner.
