Fifth seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga proved to be too strong for Slovakian Lukas Lacko in a 6-4, 6-3, 6-3 victory over one hour and 36 minutes on Saturday at The Championships.

The 27-year-old Frenchman will next challenge 10th-seeded American Mardy Fish, who  beat Belgian David Goffin 6-3, 7-6(6), 7-6(6), hitting 56 winners and 17 winners past the 21-year-old wild card for victory in two hours and 16 minutes. Fish is into the fourth round for the second time in 10 appearances.

“He'll be a good player,” said Fish. “He got better and better every set today. I served well and was sort of able to control the match with my serve. I played much better today than I did in the past two matches, for sure. This was the best player that I played so far. It was windy out there. I used that to my advantage. Growing up in Florida and playing in windy conditions most of my life, that doesn't bother me.”.

Goffin was bidding to become only the second man in the Open Era (since 1968) to reach the fourth round at his first two Grand Slam championships. Italy's Francesco Cancellotti reached fourth round at 1984 and 1985 Roland Garros.

Seventh-seeded Spaniard David Ferrer will play ninth seed Juan Martin del Potro of Argentina on Monday.

Ferrer managed to beat American No. 30 seed and three-time runner-up Andy Roddick 2-6, 7-6(8), 6-4, 6-3 in two hours and 38 minutes. Roddick committed 23 unforced errors, seven more than Ferrer, who converted four of his eight break point opportunities.

“I'm playing very good this season,” said Ferrer. “Today was a tough, tough match. I played very consistent, very solid. I returned very well [in] the third and fourth set.”

Del Potro, 23, defeated Nishikori 6-3, 7-6(3), 6-1 in two hours and 26 minutes to reach the fourth round for the second straight year.

“I think this was my best match this week,” said del Potro. “I played really aggressive, trying to hit the ball really hard, and I took all my break points. That's important to have the control of the match. I think I played a very good match today and I have an opportunity to play the fourth round again.”

It was his 50th victory at a Grand Slam championship (50-20 overall) and his 40th match win of the season (40-9), which includes two ATP World Tour titles at the Open 13 in Marseille (d. Llodra) and the Estoril Open (d. Gasquet).

Said Ferrer on his match with del Potro, “It's going to be so difficult. To beat him I will have to play very consistent. I will have to play very, very good.”
