UMAG SATURDAY PREVIEW - TOP 4 SEEDS IN BLOCKBUSTER SEMI-FINAL LINE-UP

• Two have had to battle through and two have cruised, but all four of the Top 4 seeds have made it through to semi-final Saturday at the ATP Vegeta Croatia Open Umag. It is the first time in tournament history (since 1990) the top four seeds are in the semi-finals in Umag.

• The first semi-final pits No. 1 seed Fernando Verdasco against No. 4 seed Marcel Granollers. Both have been pushed to three sets en route to the semi-finals, Verdasco by Ernests Gulbis in the second round and Granollers by Matthias Bachinger in the quarters - that may not be a factor in this match given the two Spaniards are also two of the fittest players on the tour. Verdasco has the better history here, winning this event in his only previous appearance in 2008; meanwhile, Granollers fell in the first round in his only previous appearance here in 2009. But Granollers did win the pair’s only previous meeting, a 64 36 63 final victory on the clay courts of Gstaad last summer.

• The second semi-final pits No. 2 seed Marin Cilic against No. 3 seed Alexandr Dolgopolov, two of the most talented young players on the ATP World Tour. It’s a rematch of last year’s final, which Dolgopolov won, 64 36 63 - that was the only previous meeting for the two 23-year-olds. Cilic won’t just be looking for revenge, he also has something to prove - at No. 15 he is not only Croatia’s No. 1 player, he is the only Croatian in the Top 50. Neither player has lost a set en route to this match - Dolgopolov has lost only 14 games in his first two matches, Cilic just nine games.
