Chardy/Simon Upset No. 1 Seeds In Hamburg

Doubles 2012

Jeremy Chardy and Gilles Simon upset No. 1 seeds Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna 5-7, 6-3, 10-7 in the quarter-finals of the bet-at-home Open German Tennis Championships 2012 on Friday in Hamburg.

The French pair won seven more total points than Bhupathi and Bopanna to seal the win in 79 minutes. Chardy and Simon are through to their first semi-final together in four appearances this season, having bowed out in the quarter-final stage at Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires and Acapulco.

Simon is bidding to reach his first ATP World Tour doubles final, while Chardy is aiming to get through to his seventh, and second in 2012.

Top seeds Marcel Granollers and Marc Lopez topped Michael Kohlmann and Thomaz Bellucci 6-4, 7-6(7) to reach their fifth final of the year (1-3 record) at the Credit Agricole Suisse Open Gstaad. The Spanish pair is looking to add to its triumph at the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event in Rome.

Granollers and Lopez are coming off a runner-up finish in Umag (l. to Marrero/Verdasco) last week. For the title, they will face Robert Farah and Santiago Giraldo. The Colombian duo upended No. 2 seeds Ivan Dodig and Marcelo Melo 3-6, 7-6(5), 10-8 in 82 minutes to book their place in the title match.

At the BB&T Atlanta Open, Matthew Ebden and Ryan Harrison rallied for a 6-7(2), 6-4, 10-4 win over South Africans Kevin Anderson and Rik de Voest. Ebden and Harrison are seeking their second team title. They lifted the trophy in Newport last year.

Raven Klaasen and Donald Young also advanced to the semi-finals, defeating Australian tandem Colin Ebelthite and Marinko Matosevic 6-4, 7-5.
