HAMBURG SATURDAY PREVIEW - ALL-STAR LINE-UP FEATURES THREE OF TOP FOUR SEEDS, LOCAL HERO
• The World No. 10, two former Top 10 players and a surging Argentine getting closer and closer to the elite make up the final four on Saturday at the ATP World Tour 500-level bet-at-home Open. The last German to win this title is tournament director Michael Stich in 1993 (d. Chesnokov).

• The first semi-final pits top seed Nicolas Almagro against No. 3 seed Juan Monaco. Almagro, who is spending his 22nd career week in the Top 10, has been strong on clay this year, winning two titles (San Paulo and Nice), reaching another two finals (Buenos Aires and Bastad) and also getting to his third Roland Garros quarter-final (all three of his Grand Slam quarter-finals have come there). His opponent today can match a lot of that - Monaco also has two titles this year, both on clay (Vina del Mar and Houston) and reached one other final (Stuttgart). Monaco is now at a career-high No. 14, as well, creeping closer to the Top 10 as the season goes on. He will move to No. 12 Almagro leads the head-to-head, 4-2, and has won their last three clay court meetings in straight sets.

• The second semi-final pits No. 4 seed Marin Cilic against German wild card Tommy Haas, a battle between two former Top 10 players (Cilic has been as high as No. 9, Haas No. 2). Cilic left Roland Garros with a 10-9 win-loss record on the season, but he has really stepped it up since then, going 15-1 since: 5-0 to win Queen’s Club, 3-1 at Wimbledon (losing to Andy Murray), 4-0 to win Umag and 3-0 so far in Hamburg. He has won his last seven matches in straight sets as well. Haas has also had quite the surge recently - he left Roland Garros 9-6 on the season and has since gone 9-2 (a stretch that includes his first ATP World Tour title in three years at Halle). The pair has split two career meetings, but Cilic won their 2012 meeting in straight sets, on clay in Munich two months ago.

GSTAAD SATURDAY PREVIEW – FAMILIAR FACES BACK IN SEMI-FINALS, MATHIEU LOOKS TO REACH FINAL
• Just one of the eight seeds who started the week is still standing three rounds later, though it’s the most important one. It’s semi-final Saturday at the Credit Agricole Suisse Open Gstaad. Three of the players are back in the semi-finals for the second straight weekend.

• First up on Centre Court is Brazil’s Thomaz Bellucci against Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov, an all-unseeded semi-final and a battle between two players who couldn’t be closer in the rankings. Both are 0-2 in ATP World Tour semi-finals this year, the No.60-ranked Bellucci falling at this stage in Sao Paulo and Stuttgart last week while the No. 61-ranked Dimitrov at Queen’s Club last month and Bastad last week. But while those were Dimitrov’s first career semi-finals, Bellucci had been to plenty before this year, even winning two titles (both on clay - here in 2009 as a qualifier and in Santiago in 2010). The Brazilian won the previous main draw meeting at Queen’s Club in London last June in three sets.

• Next on is top seed Janko Tipsarevic against France’s former Top 15 Paul-Henri Mathieu, who missed all of last season with a knee injury. Tipsarevic is fresh off his third career ATP World Tour title last week in Stuttgart, which was his first on clay. After a rough start to his follow-up week, losing the first set and having to rally from a break down in the second and third sets to beat Austrian qualifier Martin Fischer, he beat Czech qualifier Jan Hernych in just 62 minutes in the quarters. Mathieu upset No. 3 seed Stanislas Wawrinka earlier in the week and is now in his first ATP World Tour semi since Metz in September 2009. Tipsarevic leads Mathieu in their head-to-head, 3-2, winning their only clay court meeting, too. Mathieu has 10 career wins (10-47) over Top 10 players, with his last win coming over No. 5 Nikolay Davydenko in the second round at the Beijing Olympics in August 2008. Since then he’s lost 10 in a row. Mathieu is 4-4 lifetime in ATP World Tour finals and his last final came in Hamburg in July 2009 (l. to Davydenko). His last title came here in Gstaad in 2007 (d. Seppi). Since the title, he lost in his opening match three times without winning a set (2008-10).
