KITZBUHEL FRIDAY PREVIEW - SEMI-FINAL FRIDAY

• Many of the stars on the ATP World Tour had to do double duty on Thursday, and now it’s down to four players at the bet-at-home Cup Kitzbuhel on Friday.

• The first semi-final pits top seed Philipp Kohlschreiber against Italy’s Filippo Volandri; both players had to play both their second round and quarter-final matches on Thursday, with both of them winning,  and now they will play for the second time. Kohlschreiber took their first career meeting in straight sets on the hard courts of Doha.

• Kohlschreiber is playing his fifth ATP World Tour semi-final of the year, going 1-3 in his first four (winning the title in Munich but falling in the semi-finals of Auckland, Montpellier and Halle).  World No.23 Kohlschreiber will make his Top 20 debut if he reaches the final

•  Volandri is playing his second ATP World Tour semi-final of the year, going 1-0 in his first one (he was a runner-up at Sao Paulo, losing to Nicolas Almagro in the final). Volandri is playing here for the second time (3-1 record); his only previous appearance saw him fall first round in 2011 (l. to Granollers). Volandri has lost 25 matches in a row against Top 30 players (his last win over a Top 30 player came more than five years ago at Roland Garros in 2007, beating then-No. 7 Ivan Ljubicic).

•  The second semi pits No. 3 seed Robin Haase against No. 5 seed Martin Klizan, a first-time meeting; both have been pushed to three sets here, Haase once (by Austrian qualifier Philipp Oswald) and Klizan twice (against Austrian wild card Dominic Thiem and Italy’s Simone Bolelli).

• Haase is playing his first ATP World Tour semi-final of the year (actually it has been almost a year since he last reached one - the week before last year’s US Open at Winston-Salem).  Haase is playing here for the second time (7-0 record); in his only previous appearance he won the title last year (his first ATP World Tour title and the first Dutchman to win one in seven years).  At No. 42, Haase is the only Dutchman in the Top 100 (next-highest is No. 102 Igor Sijsling).

•  Klizan is playing his first ATP World Tour semi-final (not only had he never made a quarter-final before this, he had never won back-to-back matches at any ATP World Tour event). Klizan is playing here for the first time (3-0 record). At No. 62, Klizan is one of only two Slovaks in the Top 100 (just behind No. 55 Lukas Lacko)
