Welcome to the Rogers Cup, the sixth ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournament of the year on the ATP World Tour to be held at the Rexall Centre, which holds 10,500. The tournament alternates every year between Montreal and Toronto. The first year the Rogers Cup was played at the Rexall Centre was in 2004.
The nine ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournaments bring together the best fields in tennis at the most prestigious venues. This year’s field consists of seven of the Top 10 in the South African Airways ATP Rankings and 23 of the Top 30 overall. The reigning champion is World No. 2 Novak Djokovic, who also won the title in ‘07. Two-time winner (2009-10) Andy Murray, who won the gold medal in London, is the No. 2 seed. The last eight champions here (since 2004) are the current Top 4 – Roger Federer, Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Murray.
This is one of four hard-court ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournaments in North America (Indian Wells, Miami, Cincinnati) and three are on clay (Monte-Carlo, Madrid, Rome) while two are later in the year (Shanghai, Paris). The 2012 ATP World Tour ends with the prestigious Barclays ATP World Tour Finals, the official year-end tournament held in London. Federer, Djokovic and Nadal have already qualified for the eight-player tournament.

MAIN DRAW OVERVIEW
• The Rogers Cup, the sixth ATP World Tour Masters 1000 of the season gets underway in Toronto on Monday, featuring seven of the Top 10 players and overall 23 of the Top 30 players in the South African Airways ATP Rankings.
• The top four of Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Andy Murray have accounted for the past eight titles in Canada. The defending champion is Djokovic, who defeated Mardy Fish in three sets in last year’s final. Two-time winner Murray won titles in 2009-10 and he’s coming off a gold medal performance at the London Olympics (d. Federer).
• Last year Djokovic captured his ninth title of the season and left Montreal with a 53-1 match record. The Belgrade native comes into Toronto after falling in the bronze medal match to Juan Martin del Potro. He is 45-9 with two titles this season. His run of 53 straight weeks at No. 1 ended on July 9.
• Djokovic, who is the top seed at the Rogers Cup for the second year in a row, opens against the winner of qualifier Michael Berrer and Aussie teenager Bernard Tomic. The first seed Djokovic could face is No. 13 Kei Nishikori in the third round. The top player from Japan takes on the winner of Sam Querrey and former Top 10 Jurgen Melzer in his opening match. In the quarter-finals, Djokovic could play No. 6 seed/’09 finalist Juan Martin del Potro, who won a bronze medal or No. 9 Gilles Simon. Del Potro leads Simon 3-2 in their head-to-head and he beat the Frenchman in 3rd Rd. at the Olympics
• In the second quarter of the draw, No. 3 seed and two-time Rogers Cup semi-finalist Jo-Wilfried Tsonga takes on the winner of Jeremy Chardy-Donald Young in his opening match. The first seed the top Frenchman could play is No. 15 Florian Mayer in the third round. In the quarter-finals, Tsonga’s possible seeded opponents are No. 5 Janko Tipsarevic and No. 10 Marin Cilic. Tipsarevic has a tough opening match against the winner of Kevin Anderson-Mikhail Youzhny. Cilic will face the winner of Carlos Berlocq-Marcos Baghdatis.
• In the bottom half of the draw (third quarter), No. 4 seed Tomas Berdych will open against the winner of qualifier Wayne Odesnik and Julien Benneteau. In the third round, Berdych could meet No. 14 seed and ’06 runner-up Richard Gasquet. In the quarter-finals, Berdych’s possible seeded opponents are No. 7 Juan Monaco and No. 11/last year’s finalist Mardy Fish. Three Canadian wild cards are also in this quarter, Frank Dancevic, Peter Polansky and Vasek Pospisil.
• In the final quarter, No. 2 Andy Murray opens against the winner of qualifiers Flavio Cipolla and Jurgen Zopp. In the third round, Murray could play No. 16 seed and top Canadian Milos Raonic, who is looking for his first Rogers Cup win (0-2). Two years ago Raonic was No. 217 when he played in Toronto. Murray is 18-4 lifetime in Canada. In the quarter-finals, Murray’s possible seeded opponents are No. 8 John Isner and No. 12 Philipp Kohlschreiber.
• The last time a player ranked outside the Top 10 won the Rogers Cup was in 2002 when No. 19-ranked Guillermo Canas came in unseeded and beat four Top 10 opponents en route to the title.
DOUBLES HIGHLIGHTS
• The top eight seeded teams receive a bye into the second round. An outstanding field is led by World No. 1 and top seeds Max Mirnyi and Daniel Nestor. Mirnyi is coming off a mixed doubles gold medal effort at the London Olympics (w/Azarenka).

• The No. 2 seeds are three-time Rogers Cup champions Bob and Mike Bryan, who won titles here in Toronto in 2002, ’06 and ’10. The Bryans are coming off a gold medal doubles showing in London. They have combined to win a record 79 titles together.
