WINSTON-SALEM MONDAY PREVIEW – BUSY DAY TWO FEATURES 13 MATCHES, LED BY ALL-AMERICAN DUAL

• It’s a busy Monday at the Winston-Salem Open with 13 singles matches on the schedule, including five on Center Court.  The line-up is headlined by an all-American duo of a former World No. 1 against a former No. 4. The long-time friends will be meeting for the 12th time on the ATP World Tour. In addition, a Grand Slam finalist and a former World No. 3 are on the action-packed schedule

• Leading off the day is top Brazilian Thomaz Bellucci, who is playing his first hard court match since March, against ’06 Australian Open runner-up Marcos Baghdatis. The Cypriot has won the two previous hard court meetings in three sets in 2010-11. Bellucci has climbed from No. 80 on July 2 to No. 42 this week with successful clay court results. He won the Braunschweig Challenger in Germany and followed with a sem-final in Stuttgart and his third career ATP World Tour title in Gstaad (d. Tipsarevic). This is Bellucci’s first match since an opening round loss at the London Olympics (l. to Tsonga). Baghdatis is ranked one spot higher than his opponent and he is 26-19 on the season (17-10 on hard), reaching a pair of semi-finals and quarter-finals on the ATP World Tour.

• In the next match, Donald Young takes on Argentine Leonardo Mayer for the first time. Young is trying to break a 17-match losing streak (16 in first round) since his last win in the first round of Memphis in February (d. Dimitrov). Young, who is ranked No. 80, reached the second round here last year. He advanced to a Grand Slam-best 4th Round at the US Open and reached his first ATP World Tour final in Bangkok. Mayer is ranked No. 63 and his best results on the ATP World Tour are quarter-finals in Sao Paulo in February and Los Angeles last month. He is 12-12 on the season (3-5 on hard).

• In the third match on, former World No. 3 Nikolay Davydenko of Russia and top Dutchman Robin Haase meet for the third time (tied 1-1). Davydenko won the last meeting in the first round of Rotterdam in February. Davydenko owns a 16-17 match record on the season (10-8 on hard) and his best result are a pair of semi-finals (Rotterdam, Nice). The 31-year-old Russian is trying to extend his titles won streak of nine consecutive years (since 2004). Haase, who reached the semi-finals here last year, defended his title in Kitzbuehel last month (d. Kohlschreiber) and his best results have come on clay (12-9 mark).  Along with his second ATP World Tour title, he also reached three other quarter-finals.

• In the evening session, No. 5 seed and ’03 World No. 1 Andy Roddick takes an 8-3 career mark against good friend James Blake, a wild card entry. Roddick, who reached the semi-finals here last year (l. to Isner), comes in ranked No. 21 with a pair of ATP World Tour titles (Eastbourne, Atlanta) this season. The 29-year-old Austin resident has won at least one ATP World Tour title for 12 straight years, tying Roger Federer as the only active players with this achievement. Roddick began the season with a 7-11 mark but is 12-3 in his past five tournaments. Two of his losses came to Top 5 opponents – No. 5 David Ferrer in the third round at Wimbledon and No. 2 Novak Djokovic in the second round at London Olympics. Blake has turned things around since an 0-6 start, going 5-4, including a straight-sets win on Sunday over Albert Ramos. Blake, who has been troubled with on-and-off knee problems this season, is ranked No. 115. His best result is the quarter-finals in Washington earlier this month.

• In the final match, No. 7 seed Sam Querrey looks to continue his successful summer on the ATP World Tour, as he takes on Colombian Santiago Giraldo, who won the previous meeting in a Davis Cup World Group tie in Colombia in September 2010. Querrey is playing in his fifth straight week and since a 7-11 start through Roland Garros, has compiled a 17-7 mark since June, winning his eighth career ATP World Tour title in Los Angeles last month (d. Berankis) and reaching the semi-finals at the Queen’s Club in London in June and Washington earlier this month. Querrey is ranked a season-high No. 28 this week. Giraldo is ranked No. 47 with a 21-19 match record (8-6 on hard).
