VIENNA TUESDAY PREVIEW – PAIR OF SEEDS, FORMER FINALIST HEADLINE DAY TWO ACTION

• There are seven matches on Tuesday’s schedule at the Erste Bank Open with a pair of seeds and local wild card highlighting the action. In addition, the top seeded Austrian doubles team is on Centre Court.

• In the opening match on Centre, Paolo Lorenzi of Italy and No. 7 seed Benoit Paire square off the first time. Both players are making their Vienna main draw debut. Lorenzi is ranked No. 82 with a 6-16 match record on the ATP World Tour this season. His best results have come on the Challenger circuit, compiling a 28-9 match record and one title. He reached a career-high ranking of No. 69 on August 20. Paire is one of the most improved players on the ATP World Tour this season, jumping from No. 95 last year to a career-high No. 46 this week. Paire reached his first ATP World Tour final in Belgrade in May (l. to Seppi) and he comes in with a 23-23 match record on the season.

• In the second match on, No. 8 seed Xavier Malisse of Belgium takes on Slovenian qualifier Grega Zemlja for the first time. Malisse, a quarter-finalist here last year, turned in his best result this season on grass in June in ‘s-Hertogenbosch with a semi-final. He’s also advanced to the quarter-finals in four other tournaments and the fourth round at Wimbledon for the second straight year (l. to Federer in four sets). Zemlja is ranked No. 70 and last year he qualified here and lost in the second round. He is 7-7 on the ATP World Tour this season and 21-9 on the Challenger circuit with three titles.

• In the next match on, another Slovenian, Aljaz Bedene, meets Spaniard Guillermo Garcia-Lopez for the first time. Bedene qualified last year and lost in the second round to Tommy Haas. Bedene is 2-3 in ATP World Tour level play this season and he’s ranked No. 89 after reaching a career-high No. 79 in August. The 23-year-old Slovenian has compiled his best results in Challengers, compiling a 32-8 match record and four titles. Garcia-Lopez is 1-4 lifetime in Vienna and this season he is 20-22 and ranked No. 64. His best result came in July in Stuttgart where he advanced to the semi-finals.

• In the evening session, Canadian qualifier Vasek Pospisil plays Austrian wild card Andreas Haider-Maurer for the first time on the ATP World Tour. They met in January at the Heilbronn Challenger and Pospisil won in straight sets. The No. 2 Canadian (behind No. 15 Milos Raonic) is 4-14 on the season and ranked No. 113 after reaching a career-high No. 85 on July 23. He’s also won two Challenger titles. Haider-Maurer, who reached the final here two years ago as a qualifier ranked No. 157 (l. to Melzer), has put together his best results this season on the Challenger circuit with a 34-14 record and two titles. He is ranked No. 98 and 4-4 lifetime in Vienna. He has lost in the first round in his three other showings.

• In the final match, top seeded Austrians Jurgen Melzer and Alexander Peya meet Michael Kohlmann of Germany and Dick Norman of Belgium. Melzer and Peya last teamed together at the London Olympics where they lost in the second round to Ferrer and F. Lopez 11-9 in the third set.

STOCKHOLM TUESDAY PREVIEW – FORMER CHAMPS MONFILS, BAGHDATIS, FORMER NO. 1 HEWITT IN ACTION

• It’s a busy Tuesday at the If Stockholm Open with 10 first round matches on the schedule, highlighted by two former champions and a two-time World No. 1 on Centre Court.

• In the opening match of the day on Centre, Jan Hajek of the Czech Republic takes on Colombian left-hander Alejandro Falla, who won the previous meeting in the first round in Delray Beach last year. Hajek is 4-5 on the ATP World Tour this season and his best result came on Swedish soil in Bastad in July when he reached the semi-finals (l. to Almagro). Hajek is ranked No. 108. Falla, who lost in the final round of qualifying last year, is a two quarter-finalist this year, in Auckland and Kuala Lumpur. He is ranked No. 54 with a 12-22 match record.

• In the second match on, Frenchman Paul-Henri Mathieu brings a 5-3 career mark against No. 5 seed Feliciano Lopez of Spain. Mathieu is making his first Stockholm appearance in seven years and last year he missed the entire season with a knee injury. Mathieu has come back strong with a 10-14 match record and he’s ranked No. 100 this week. In July he advanced to the semi-finals in Gstaad. Lopez enters with a 25-24 match record on the season (14-13 on hard courts) and he’s reached three semi-finals (Houston, Munich, Beijing). The 31-year-old Madrid native is 4-4 lifetime in Stockholm and his best result is a quarter-final six years ago.

• In the third match, rising Belgian David Goffin makes his Stockholm debut against No. 7 seed and 2009 champion Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus. Goffin is an ATP Newcomer of the Year candidate. The 21-year-old is ranked a career-high No. 45 this week and he’s reached quarter-finals in Chennai and Winston-Salem and a Grand Slam-best fourth round at Roland Garros (l. to Federer in four sets). He’s also won two Challenger titles. Baghdatis is ranked No. 33 this week and he’s advanced to three semi-finals (Sydney, Zagreb, Tokyo) while compiling a 32-23 match record (23-14 on hard). Three years ago Baghdatis won the title here, defeating another Belgian Olivier Rochus.

• In the evening session, top South African Kevin Anderson, a quarter-finalist here last year, meets wild card Lleyton Hewitt for the first time. Anderson captured his second career ATP World Tour title in Delray Beach in March, defeating another Aussie, Marinko Matosevic. Anderson is ranked No. 38 with a 26-23 match record. He also advanced to four other quarter-finals. Hewitt, who last appeared in Stockholm 10 years ago when he was ranked No. 1, comes in at No. 102. In July he reached the final in Newport (l. to Isner), his best ATP World Tour result of the season. In Grand Slam play, his best showing was the fourth round at the Australian Open (l. to Djokovic).

• In the final match on, Swedish wild card Patrik Rosenholm makes his ATP World Tour main draw debut against defending champion Gael Monfils. The 24-year-old Rosenholm has played almost entirely in Futures tournaments this season, compiling a 28-15 match record and two titles. He also advanced to the quarter-finals at the Tampere Challenger in July. He is ranked No. 436. Monfils has been bothered by an on-and-off knee injury since Roland Garros and he comes in unseeded and ranked No .47 with a 19-9 match record. One year ago he came into Stockholm as the top seed ranked No. 10. Despite his knee troubles, the Frenchman has reached the final in Doha (l. to Tsonga) in the opening week of the season and Montpellier (l. to Berdych) in February.

• Leading off the Center Court schedule is qualifier Konstantin Kravchuk of Russia and Evgeny Korolev of Kazakhstan in a first-time meeting. Kravchuk is playing in his second ATP World Tour main draw of the season after losing in the first round to Lukas Lacko in Halle in June. The No. 253-ranked Kravchuk has played mostly on the Challenger circuit, putting together a 13-19 match record with a pair of semi-finals. He is 2-6 lifetime in ATP World Tour play and his last win came two years ago in St. Petersburg. Korolev, who reached a career-high No. 46 on Feb. 22, 2010, is coming back from injuries over the past two years. He is 1-4 on the ATP World Tour this season (12-8 in Challengers) and he’s   3-3 at the Kremlin Cup. He reached the quarter-finals in 2009 (l. to Marchenko).

• In the second match on, Russian wild card Andrey Kuznetsov meets No. 7 seed Carlos Berlocq of Argentina. In their previous meeting at the Todi Challenger on clay three years ago, Berlocq won 61 61.
Kuznetsov has made one of the biggest jumps into the Top 100 to No. 73 this week from No. 222 last year. The 21-year-old Russian is 2-3 in ATP World Tour play with a quarter-final in Umag in July. He has compiled a 32-10 Challenger record with four titles. He is trying to earn his first main draw match win (0-3) in his fourth appearance. Berlocq made his debut here last year and lost in the first round. The 29-year-old Argentine has put together his best season by reaching his first ATP World Tour final in Vina del Mar (l. to Monaco) in February and advancing to five other quarter-finals, all on clay. He is ranked No. 52 with a 23-28 match record this year and he reached a career-high No. 37 on March 19.

• In the evening session, Alex Bogomolov Jr., a quarter-finalist here last year (l. to Troicki), takes on countryman, No. 5 seed and three-time Kremlin Cup champ Nikolay Davydenko for the second time. Davydenko is making his 10th straight Kremlin Cup appearance and he is trying to win his 20th match (19-6 record). The 31-year-old won titles here in 2004 (d. Rusedski), ‘06 (d. Safin) and ’07 (d. Mathieu). Last year he lost in the semi-finals to eventual champion Janko Tipsarevic. This season Davydenko has a 23-21 match record, reaching three semi-finals in Rotterdam, Nice and Metz.
