AIRCEL CHENNAI OPEN 2013
Paire Wins Cook-Off Against Wawrinka In Chennai
by ATP Staff|
Former Aircel Chennai Open champion Stanislas Wawrinka and France's Benoit Paire took part in a cook-off on Saturday in Chennai. The pair cooked fish, including prawns, with different vegetables on the side.
“I almost never cook,” admitted Paire, “Luckily my girlfriend is here and she gave me some advice during the contest.”
Wawrinka, who is a keen chef and and often cooks for his whole team during the Wimbledon fortnight, said, “It was great. Benoit is a friend of mine and we had a lot of fun. We should do this every evening to practise. A lot of media attended and they seemed to enjoy seeing us doing something different.”

There was a surprise result in the cook-off as self-declared novice Paire was declared the winner, though there was a sly suggestion it was thanks to the votes of his fellow countrymen Edouard Roger-Vasselin and his coach, who were among the judges. Tournament Director Tom Annear voted for Wawrinka’s dish and was impressed by the cooking of the Aircel Chennai Open’s No. 4 seed.
The ATP World Tour 250 tournament is one of three events to begin the 2013 season and starts on Monday. Wawrinka triumphed in 2011 with victory over Xavier Malisse, having finished runner-up a year earlier to Marin Cilic. Paire is seeded fifth in the 28-player draw and opens his campaign against Flavio Cipolla.
