Rogier Wassen has earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing through the ATP’s continuing education programme with the University of Phoenix. The Dutchman, a recipient of the ATP/University of Phoenix scholarship, graduated in September.
“Thanks once again to ATP for giving me the scholarship and the opportunity to obtain a university degree,” said Wassen. “I definitely want to thank my coach Geert Quaedvlieg, who gave me the advice to study besides playing tennis, and my wife Caroline for her support down the road.
“The main advice one can give another athlete who wants to use this great opportunity to study online through the ATP and the University of Phoenix is the possibility of getting a degree during their tennis career, which helps a great deal for life after tennis. Obviously the online courses worked well for my lifestyle!”
When asked to reveal his favourite class, Wassen said, “It was international marketing, because it combined my interests in different cultures and my passion for marketing, which was also my major.”
The 36 year old won five ATP World Tour doubles titles during his career, peaking at No. 24 in the Emirates ATP Doubles Rankings on 10 September 2007. He achieved his best major result that same year, reaching the quarter-finals of the Australian Open with Jeff Coetzee.
