Cilic Overcomes Dodig On Memphis Debut

World No. 12 Marin Cilic overcame compatriot Ivan Dodig 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 to win his debut at the U.S. National Indoor Tennis Championships in Memphis on Monday.
Cilic won 89 per cent of his first serve points and broke Dodig three times to advance in one hour and 46 minutes. The top seed levelled his FedEx ATP Head2Head record against Dodig to a 1-1 mark.
Lukasz Kubot battled past Ryan Harrison 6-4, 6-7(4), 7-6(2) in two hours and 37 minutes to book his place in the second round. The two were facing off for the first time.
In an all-American clash, qualifier Rhyne Williams defeated wild card Steve Johnson 7-6(4), 6-4 to register his first match win on the ATP World Tour. Williams did not lose serve, winning 81 per cent of his service points in the 90-minute victory.
