Almagro Emerges As Aces Leader
2013 Aces Leaders
by ATP Staff|
However, through the first three months of the 2013 season, it is not a towering giant who leads the category, but rather the 6’ Nicolas Almagro. In his 20 matches, Almagro has fired 242 aces en route to posting a 14-6 record and reaching the quarter-finals or better at his first four tournaments, which includes the Spaniard’s first last eight showing at the Australian Open. Almagro finished fifth in total aces last year.
Sam Querrey, who ranked third in 2012, is in second position with 218 aces. He is followed by Milos Raonic (203) and Isner (194) respectively. This past season, Isner and Raonic both hit over 1000 aces to become the first pair to achieve the feat in the same season since ATP MatchFacts debuted in 1991.
France has three players represented in the Top 10 leaders, led by No. 6 Richard Gasquet (180). Gasquet is off to his best season start (21-5), winning trophies in Doha and Montpellier. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga is right behind Gasquet in seventh place with 174 aces, while Benoit Paire sits in ninth (162). Others placing in the Top 10 include No. 5 Tomas Berdych (186), No. 8 Kevin Anderson (171) and No. 10 Andy Murray (161).
