US Men's Clay Court Championship: Four Top 20 players headline the field in Houston, led by 12th-ranked Nicolas Almagro. The Spaniard is making his tournament debut. Second seed Tommy Haas, the 2004 champion, has a 15-6 event record. Defending titlist and third seed Juan Monaco looks to turn his season around, while a pair of home favourites, Sam Querrey and John Isner (last year's runner-up), each seek their first title of the season.

Haas is coming off a semi-final showing at the Sony Open Tennis in Miami, where he ousted Novak Djokovic in the fourth round to post his first win over a World No. 1 in 14 years. Haas’ performance at Crandon Park enabled him to crack the Top 15 of the Emirates ATP Rankings for the first time since 14 January 2008. In his Houston opener, Haas will play Ricardas Berankis or Jesse Levine.
