ROLAND GARROS 2013
Ferrer On Nadal: "He's The Best Mentally"
by ATP Staff|
Following his runner-up finish to Rafael Nadal on Sunday at Roland Garros, David Ferrer declared that Nadal has the best mental strength of any player he has competed against during his career. Nadal defeated Ferrer 6-3, 6-2, 6-3 to become the first player to win eight titles at the same major championship.
“Rafael, I think he's the best mentally I’ve ever seen in my career. He has everything,” Ferrer stated. “He can play aggressive, he has hands [at] the net; and is [physically] unbelievable. He can play five sets two days ago and today he can play similar tennis.”
Ferrer was contesting his first final at a Grand Slam event on his 42nd major appearance. While disappointed with the outcome of the all-Spanish title match, the Valencia resident was quick to focus on the strides he made by achieving his best result at a major.

“One always has the feeling afterwards that one could have played better. But when the opponent is more steady or consistent, you have to accept it,” said Ferrer.
“I suppose in the future, I'll have to try and improve. That's why I work day in and day out. I hope that I'll play another Grand Slam final. Last year, for the first time, I won a Masters 1000 and I've made progress. Now I've reached the final of a Grand Slam. I hope I will continue.”
With his showing in Paris, Ferrer will move back ahead of Nadal at No. 4 in the Emirates ATP Rankings on Monday. Ferrer is second to Nadal for the most match wins of 2013, holding a 37-10 record.
