Roger Federer was delighted to have won his 77th tour-level title and sixth crown at the Gerry Weber Open on Sunday.
It marked his first trophy since August 2012 at the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati.
“For me, it is great in terms of confidence,” said Federer, after his 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-4 victory over Mikhail Youzhny in the Halle final. “Winning solves everything really. It was good to fight as well in the last couple of matches.
“I’m just very happy how I played this week and excited about what’s to come now. Because I feel confident, I feel fit and fresh and that’s very important at this point in the season.”

Federer is now tied with John McEnroe at No. 3 in the Open Era title-leaders list.
Assessing his 2013 season so far, the Swiss admitted, “I’m not absolutely satisfied with the first six months. Maybe if I had changed my tournament schedule I would have won more titles but that wasn’t the goal.”
Federer will next compete at The Championships, which begins at Wimbledon on 24 June.
Should he lift his eighth trophy at SW19, you wonder if the All England Club would allow him special dispensation to take the trophy home.
The World No. 3 confessed that he once slept with La Coupes des Mousquetaires on his bedside table after his 2009 Roland Garros triumph.
“It didn’t sleep in the same bed as I did!”
