by ATP Staff|
World No. 19 Fabio Fognini is two wins from capturing his third ATP World Tour title in a row after reaching the semi-finals of the Vegeta Croatia Open Umag on Friday. The third-seeded Italian defeated Martin Klizan 6-4, 6-2.
Fognini is on a 12-match winning streak, having won his first two ATP World Tour trophies in the past two weeks in Stuttgart (d. Kohlschreiber) and Hamburg (d. Delbonis). This week he broke into the Top 20 of the Emirates ATP Rankings.
The 26-year-old Fognini is through to the Umag semi-finals for the third time (2008,’11) and will face Gael Monfils, whom he trails 1-2 in their FedEx ATP Head2Head series, losing to the Frenchman two months ago in Nice.

Monfils battled past Albert Montanes 6-2, 5-7, 7-5 in two hours and 16 minutes in a re-match of the Nice final, which Montanes had won in straight sets. The 26-year-old Monfils is looking to reach his 19th ATP World Tour final on his debut in Umag.
Second seed Andreas Seppi was granted a place in the semi-finals when Horacio Zeballos retired from their match with a strained intercostal muscle, when trailing 5-6 in the first set. The Italian is bidding to reach his first ATP World Tour final of the season after semi-final exits in Sydney (l. to Tomic), Oeiras (l. to Ferrer) and Eastbourne (l. to Simon).
Seppi will take on fifth seed Tommy Robredo, who defeated Aljaz Bedene 6-1, 6-4 in the last match of the day. Seppi and Robredo are tied at 3-3 in their FedEx ATP Head2Head series, with Seppi winning their last meeting in Oeiras in April in straight sets.
The 31-year-old Robredo has enjoyed a welcome return to form and fitness this season, improving his Emirates ATP Ranking to No. 28 from No. 114 at the start of the year. The former Top 5 player won his first ATP World Tour title in two years in Casablanca (d. Anderson) and was a quarter-finalist at Roland Garros (l. to Ferrer).
