Tsonga Closes On Federer After Reaching Shanghai SFs

Tsonga, who finished runner-up to Federer at the 2011 Barclays ATP World Tour Finals, is bidding to qualify for the prestigious event, to be held at The O2 in London from 4-11 November, for the fourth time. Tsonga has 3,010 points, while Federer has 3,145 points in the battle to clinch one of five remaining berths. He could add another 180 points to his total if he reaches the final.
The 28-year-old Tsonga improved his perfect FedEx ATP Head2Head record to 4-0 against Florian Mayer with a 6-2, 6-3 quarter-final victory in 65 minutes. "I played well," said Tsonga, who returned last month after a left knee injury. "I had some trouble [finishing] the match."
Mayer dropped to 0-3 in ATP World Tour Masters 1000 quarter-finals. He beat third seed David Ferrer in the third round on Thursday and is now 10-43 lifetime against Top 10 opponents.

Bryans Reach Semi-finals
Top seeds Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan recorded their 60th match win of the season for a spot in the semi-finals after they defeated Treat Huey and Dominic Inglot 7-5, 7-6(4) in 77 minutes. The American twins hit seven aces and saved both break points they faced.
Later in the day, Ivan Dodig and Marcelo Melo, who are in sixth position in the Emirates ATP Doubles Team Rankings, beat fifth-placed Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi and Jean-Julien Rojer 7-6(4), 6-3 in 76 minutes.
