Pospisil Starts Strong In Chennai

Pospisil© Aircel Chennai OpenCanadian Vasek Pospisil looks to continue his successful 2013 in Chennai.

Fifth seed Vasek Pospisil advanced to the second round of the Aircel Chennai Open with a 6-3, 7-5 win over wild card Kyle Edmund on Monday. The 23-year-old Pospisil looks to continue his success from 2013, which saw the Canadian reach a career-high No. 32 in the Emirates ATP Rankings.

Also on Monday, Yen-Hsun Lu of Chinese Taipei beat American Tim Smyczek 6-4, 6-2 to set up a meeting with Pospisil.

Dudi Sela advanced with a straight-sets victory over Lukas Lacko while Jiri Vesely swept aside wild card Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan 7-5, 6-2.

Chennai defending champion Janko Tipsarevic pulled out of the event due to an injury. Stanislas Wawrinka has been named the top seed in his stead. Mikhail Youzhny, Fabio Fognini and Benoit Paire round out the top four players in the tournament.

In doubles, the team of Pablo Carreno Busta and Albert Ramos, of Spain, advanced with a 6-1, 7-6(7) defeat of wild cards Karen Khachanov and Saketh Myneni.
