Players© Fiona HamiltonDi Wu and Ze Zhang get to grips with some Australian animals at Melbourne Park.

There will be two Chinese male players in the Australian Open main draw for the first time after Ze Zhang came through qualifying to join Di Wu.

Chinese No. 1 Di Wu made history by becoming the first Chinese man in the Open Era to compete in a Grand Slam main draw at the 2013 Australian Open, falling in four sets to Ivan Dodig in the first round. He returns this year, having earned a wild card by winning the Asia-Pacific Australian Open Wild Card Play-off in Shenzhen in November, beating Zhang in the final.

Zhang, who played doubles with Roger Federer at the Shanghai Rolex Masters in October, qualified into the main draw for the loss of just one set, beating Illya Marchenko 7-5, 6-3 in the final round on Saturday. The 23 year old will make his Grand Slam main draw debut.

Wu is due to face Kenny De Schepper, while Zhang takes on Fernando Verdasco.
