Roger Federer has joined Australian Open champion Stanislas Wawrinka and the Swiss team for its Davis Cup by BNP Paribas World Group first-round tie in Novi Sad, Serbia.

The Davis Cup shared the news on its Twitter feed Wednesday, posting, “BREAKING! @rogerfederer will play in the first round of #DavisCup this weekend in Switzerland's tie against Serbia!”

Wawrinka, the new Swiss No. 1, also tweeted a picture with his teammate and team captain: “Look who I found in Novi Sad ... @rogerfederer and Captain Severino!”. Federer followed with a Tweet showing his red shoes for the tie: “Exciting”.

Federer made his last Davis Cup appearance in September 2012 and won his two singles rubbers against The Netherlands to secure Switzerland’s place in the World Group for 2013. He has a 32-7 career record in singles and 11-8 record in doubles.
